2024 NBA All-Star Game – “Hoosier Historia”
George Washington High School 1969 State Champions
The Arts Council of Indianapolis, NBA, Indiana Pacers, and the Indianapolis Capital Improvement Board sponsored the “Hoosier Historia” project as part of the festivities around the 2024 All-Star Game. 24 artists were commissioned to depict iconic moments in Indiana basketball history. The 6 foot sculptures, shaped like basketballs were displayed in downtown Indianapolis during and after the event.
I was selected to paint the story of the legendary GWHS Continentals, champions of 1969. The main focus was on the two stars of the team, George McGinnis and Steve Downing. Purple and white, the school’s colors are used prominently, and the “79-76” final score of their victory over Gary Tolleston is included. My goal was to give a celebratory feel to the piece. Painting on a spherical shape of that size was a challenge, but it was rewarding and fun to be part of the project and meet so many talented artists. The sculpture is now where it belongs at George Washington High School.
Commissioned Artwork for Ascension St. Vincent Women and Infants Hospital
The Ascension St. Vincent Women and Infants Hospital opened in 2024. I was commissioned to create two paintings, both 60″ x 30″. The prompt was to work in soothing tones and visually represent the gentle connection between mothers and their babies.
The two paintings “mirror” one another through the “helping hands” patterns, flowing swirls, and shapes of the backgrounds. The mirroring works no matter which painting is placed on the right or left. The central focus of each is a large heart with a diverse group of women, some with children, representing the women served by the hospital. The artwork hangs in the 6th floor waiting area.
Mural for The Florence Theatre
Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre | Carmel, Indiana
The mural was designed for The Florence Theatre in Carmel, Indiana. Gregory Hancock, of the Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre named the space after his mother and the mural incorporates her signature as the main element of the design. She was a wonderful woman and a loving inspiration in his life, both personal and creative. Daisies and sunflowers were her favorites and the daisies carry off on both sides from the main body of the design. The swirls and waves of color represent movement and growth.
Digital art designed in Procreate and refined in Adobe Illustrator. The Direct Print to Brick-Specific vinyl with matte lamination is pretty amazing and makes the piece appear to be painted on the wall. Many thanks to the team at Repro Graphix, Inc. for the printing and installation. The dimensions of the main design are 186″ x 75.6″

Thanks to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and The Arts Council.
