About the painting
“I was born in Puerto Rico, my blood is Taino, Spanish Caribbean my soul. Nací en Puerto Rico en la tierra del Ay bendito, y el coquí del jibarito, en la linda Boriquen”

In most of my paintings you will see lots of symbolism/symbols/images that represent the subject of the piece.
The flowers, the taino sun, birds the butterflies, the sea, the fish and the foliage of Puerto Rico in the background.

About the painting
All aspects of my style come together in the painting, “Mis Raices”. The central figure is a Taino woman, (the indigenous people of Puerto Rico). Her hair as well as the swirls in the background can indicate my “roots” or branches of a tree. The butterflies are loved ones and the carnations symbolize Spain to show that side of my heritage. Near the top of the painting are flowers and butterflies that represent the loved ones that have passed away. I have chosen to use the imagery of a bomba dancer in the upper section of the hair to illustrate the African side of my heritage.
This piece is an acrylic painting and the imagery continues to all edges of the canvas, making framing optional.

About the painting
It’s heartbreaking to know that thousands of immigrant children have been detained and taken away from their parents. The agony of those separations is painful to imagine and hard to put into words. So I tried to express the feelings inside me through my artwork.
I kept thinking, what would wake America up to this atrocity?.
This painting is dedicated to all all my latino brothers and sisters. I painted the little boy fair-skinned with blue eyes, and blonde hair. My hope is for people to seriously think about how they’d feel if little white children were treated this way. Locked behind bars, caged away from their family. What would we do? Is that what it would take to help people empathize and care for those innocent children? Is that how it works?
I kept hearing the quote in my head from Cesar A. Cruz which was adopted by Banksy…“Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.”
I felt this piece had to be in warm and cool grays, with a touch of blue. It was just the right mood. I presented the boy as pale almost ghost-like, to give him an “Is he there or not?” look.
Memories of Summer

Acrylic on canvasPrice for Original: $2,000 SOLD

About the painting
I painted a place that is special. A place with sweet memories that will stay in my heart and mind, filled with love, fun, laughter, and silliness. Because it truly is the ordinary things that matter most. The grays and darker tones present those loving memories with a hint of the sadness that overlayed our lives at the time it was created.

About the painting
This painting is one of the most personal ones for me. It is dedicated to a dear friend who is finding their own way back.
Someone asked me how long it took me. I really couldn’t say since I stopped and started so many times because it broke my heart each time I’d stick my brush in the paint.
More than anything else, the piece is about loss and sadness. AND the elephant in the room, mental illness. We NEED a dialogue about this.
Everyone may have their own interpretation but this is why I needed to paint this.
I was watching a friend spiral down and bringing loved ones along. It was a tragic and out of control period. It’s so hard to help in such situations, outside of simply offering love and friendship.
“Speaking in Silence” was MY means of gaining “control” of my feelings and was how I needed to show what was in my heart. There’s always hope when you have the love and support of family and friends. And the strength and commitment to overcome your obstacles.
Maybe it’s not always about trying to fix something broken, but instead, starting over and creating something better.

About the painting
The year “without a summer”, when sadness overtook happiness. We didn’t know what each new day would bring. But we all stuck together and held on through the tough times. The wilting flower in the foreground, hints at the hope of a fresh start the following year, and for better days.

About the painting
This is both a surrender and a struggle. It felt like I was covered by fear and insecurities, but at the same time I felt hope in believing this feeling wasn’t going to last forever. I just had to hold on tight and ride it out.

About the painting
Trying to look through the ordered chaos to better moments, never giving up, and always looking inside myself for strength. I don’t believe people should shy away from the bittersweet or sad moments. They make the brighter days that much sweeter.

He wasn’t a man to be trifled with, as he absorbed her with his eyes. I wanted the background to be angles and hard edges to show his seriousness.
A Mother’s Agony
“Jesus dies still clinging to hope”
(13th Station of the Cross)
24.5″ w x 18″ h
Acrylic on Ampersand boardPrice for Original: $900 SOLD

About the painting
I wanted to show an alternative to the typical view of Jesus dying on the cross and instead show a mother witnessing her son’s death. I also wanted to show a quiet dignity.
The piece focuses on the agony and sorrow in Mary’s face and the cross reflected in her eyes.

About the painting
Anaïs Nin wrote:”I will always be the virgin-prostitute, the perverse angel, the two-faced sinister and saintly woman.”
I asked a few of my gal friends what they see in my painting and between us this is the explanation, you gotta love sisterhood!
What do YOU see?
“I wanted to represent the complexity and mystery of women. We are often critical of ourselves inwardly and many of us are insecure, yet we put up a good front. We can be hesitant on which persona we are ready to share outwardly.
At the end of the day, we are lovely and alluring in our own way. A woman who embraces her sexuality can find a source of strength that carries through to the rest of her life.
The title of my painting “Moments of Wholeness”, was inspired by the quote “Passion gives us moments of wholeness” from The Diary of Anaïs Nin.

About the painting
I just LOVE chairs, so many cool designs. This one is special to me. Reminds me of my father(who passed) HAD to paint it. I can see him with his legs stretched out and his arms behind his head. Guess the springtime brings out the nostalgia in me, since that’s when his birthday is.

Some doors are just meant to be kept closed…or not…Hmm? What do you think?
I started painting in gray after I lost my father in 2013. I couldn’t paint in my usual bright caribbean colors, I was just too sad. So I started painting in grays and I fell in love so I made a “gray series” and here’s one of them.

About the painting
My art represents the very heart of who I am. After my father passed away I found it difficult to work with bright colors. I was just too sad. Embrujada was my first gray painting.
It was extremely important to me to get back to painting I missed it however, because of my sadness I needed some inspiration. Its essential (for me) to have a connection with my subject matter so I looked at a lot of photos of friends and family.
I was captivated with the look of my friend Danielle, the photograph spoke to me and I HAD to make it my own.
I titled the painting, Haunted translated in spanish to Embrujada. In spanish it has several meanings but, I chose it to mean a bit tormented, numb. Because that was the way I was feeling.
Danielle is a happy, beautiful woman and in NO way am I saying she was feeling that. In the photo she was with friends and it was obvious they were having fun. But I saw something in her expression that spoke to me.
I chose to make her pupil an amber color to imply hope and healing.
